How to make your kids eat healthy?
Written by coolaid on January 31, 2010Is dinner time a “war time” in your household ? Do you hear ” I don’t like this, I don’t want to eat this” every day ? Do you cook two meals – one for you and your spouse and one for kids because kids won’t eat what you’ve cooked ?
Kids at this present time, are not into eating a balanced meal. They always want to eat junk food because they think it’s cool to eat that rather than home cooked meal. Unfortunately they don’t realize that eating junk food has many side effects. Junk food increases obesity, kids do not get appropriate nutrition they need to grow and it can increase their chances of life threatening disease later in their lives.
So, big question is, how to make kids eat healthy ?
Well, first thing to do is, do not buy junk food any more. Buy fresh fruits and vegetables. Try to get seasonal colorful fruits, bright color fruits and veggies ignite hunger. Keep fruits and veggies visible so they would appeal to kids. Make a weekly dinner menu and have kids get involved while you make that menu. So that they feel that they have contributed too. Have whole family eat dinner together at least 3 times a week. Explain to kids that eating fruits and veggies will not only make them strong but will also prevent them from getting sick.
If you do this for at least 3 weeks, they will start eating home cooked healthy meal. And they will start loving fruits and veggies. Please feel free to share your thoughts, ideas and healthy recipes for kids.

I think this is worth trying. Kids’ dinner is always an issue at our home and after all day of work, last thing I want to do is to yell at kids for not finishing their meals.
But my question is, should you give dessert once kids finish their meals ?
I think sometimes you just have to let go.. as long as they eat a couple of fruits and veggies in any form, it should be okay. You can’t really force feed them. But I do want to try one thing from your article, is to keep fruits & veggie visible and see what happens. It’s worth trying if kids eat them.
Thank you……
I greatly appreciate all the info I read here. I will spread the word about your blog to other people. Cheers….
I’m so worried about the way our children are headed in nowadays. Watching Jamie Olivers food revolution tv show scared the thingies out of me. I suggest we all start cooking some healthy recipe like these at home if we’re going to fix this horrible situation. The ones on that site seem pretty easy, I tried last night and it’s the first time my family has eaten well in ages, I just feel great.
